How to Peg Loom a Circular Seat Pad (and Why That’s Just the Beginning!)

How to Peg Loom a Circular Seat Pad (and Why That’s Just the Beginning!)

If you’ve ever wondered how to peg loom your own seat pad, this project is the perfect place to start. A circular peg-loomed seat pad is simple, practical, and ideal for beginners. With just a few tools, some fleece or yarn, and a peg loom, you can create a beautiful handmade pad that’s both useful and decorative.

Once you’ve learned how to weave a neat round peg loom seat pad, you can level up your skills. Circles naturally lead into semi-circular seat pads, which are brilliant for benches and stools, and then on to oval peg loom seat pads or even full-sized peg loom rugs.

Step One: The Circular Seat Pad

Circles are the foundation of peg loom weaving. This project helps you practice your tension, shaping, and finishing techniques, while giving you something practical you can use every day.

Step Two: Semi-Circles

Once you’ve mastered the circle, try a semi-circle. These peg loom semi-circle seat pads are great fun to make and surprisingly versatile.

Step Three: Oval Seat Pads and Rugs

When you feel confident, it’s time to stretch your skills—literally! Oval peg loom seat pads and oval peg loom rugsuse the same circular technique with a few clever tweaks. They’re a little more advanced but open up endless creative possibilities.

The Giant Oval Rug!

My biggest project to date was an enormous oval peg loom rug, measuring 52″ wide along the straight edge. To make it, I even built myself a special loom. It was a real challenge, but the result was worth it.

    Hi Hazel

I haven’t written any instructions for an oval rug as they would be unique to the width and length everyone would want. You just need to calculate the width of the rug you want, half it for the width that you will need to use on your peg loom. I started on the straights and then went around the semi circle, then did the straight part agin etc. You will need to calculate the warp threads still re the outer ones being very long and the inner one shorter.
