Want to Turn Your Character-Full Leftover Fleece into a Wall Art, Sheep Counter, or Dream Catcher Mandala?

Want to Turn Your Character-Full Leftover Fleece into a Wall Art, Sheep Counter, or Dream Catcher Mandala?

If you’ve been working with fleece for a while — washing, carding, felting, or making all sorts of woolly creations — you’ve probably got a pile of little leftover bits of fleece you just can’t bear to throw away. Maybe they’re curls with a bit too much personality to fit in a tidy rug. Maybe they’ve got streaks of colour or interesting textures that didn’t quite suit your last cushion. You’ve kept them because they’ve got character — and now they’re finally ready to shine.

This week, I want to show you how to turn those small, special bits of fleece into a beautiful piece of wall art using a simple embroidery hoop as your frame.

It’s part weaving, part dreaming — and entirely satisfying. The end result can be whatever you want it to be: a natural mandala, a sheep-themed dream catcher, a rustic wool counter for the nursery, or just a tactile, organic statement piece to hang on your wall.

What You’ll Create

Using just a handful of fleece, a hoop, and some warp yarn, you’ll build a circular woven artwork that’s full of texture, movement, and colour. It’s perfect for:

  • Showing off your most interesting fleece leftovers
  • Creating meaningful handmade gifts
  • Decorating a child’s room, creative corner, or meditation space
  • Making something completely one-of-a-kind

And you don’t need to be an expert — just willing to play.

I’ve put together a step-by-step pattern with full written instructions and clear photos of every stage, so you can follow along at your own pace. You’ll see exactly how I set up the hoop, layer in texture, build structure, and finish the back — all using fleece scraps you probably already have.

No Fleece? No Problem…

If this project inspires you but you don’t have any fleece yet — I’m working on putting together some mini kits with everything you need: a hoop, a bundle of fleece in lovely natural textures and colours, warp yarn, and even a few fun extras.

Would you be interested? Let me know in the comments or drop me a message — I’m happy to make them up if there’s demand!

Let Your Scraps Shine

This project is a chance to give voice to all the tiny bits of fleece that are too bold, curly, or colourful to blend in. They might not have made it into your last rug or cushion, but here — they become the star of the show.
